About The Issue Of Duplicate Content
Aug 13th, 2008 | By CJ | Category: article marketingWhile it is true that Google does not like to see duplicate content on too many sites, there are ways to prevent the problems that it causes.
Here’s Google’s definition of duplicate content:
“Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar… In some cases, content is duplicated across domains in an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings or garner more traffic via popular or long-tail queries.”
A good example of the correct use of content is QualityArticles.com. All content presented on this site is duplicate content unless the article author only publishes on this single article directory, alone. The bottom line is this: it is the way the content is used that is important.
When you write an article, post it on your own site first. Allow it to become indexed by the search spiders and THEN post it to your favourite article directories. That’s the quick and dirty way to avoid being penalized for duplicate content. Anyone else downloading and posting your article may get the gig from Google. Even if they do, it won’t be a huge deal because Google does not censure the entire site based on one page that has duplicate content. The site will still be indexed, but the one page with duplicate content will not. That’s not a huge loss for the webmaster. After all, as long as the site is in Google’s index, traffic will come. The webmaster will still have provided valid content for his visitors, which is what is important. In the meantime, you have the privilege of having the article indexed first.
Remember, you get a lot more traffic from the article directories than you do from individual websites that have posted your article!

[...] 3. You will see, as we delve further into this subject, that posting your articles to many Article Directories will, obviously, increase the exposure your articles receive. However, there is an issue I would like to address, briefly, at this point. There is a raging debate going on about “Duplicate Content” and how the search engines do not like it. I have gone into this issue in other blog posts and articles, but for now, the short and dirty way around this problem would be to post the article on YOUR site first, allow the search engine spiders to index it and THEN submit it to your favorite Article Directories. A complete detailed post, including what Google actually says about it, can be found at ArticleWritingNews.com [...]
