Article Writing For Fun And Profit… Well, Profit, Anyway
Jul 13th, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Article WritingI know, article marketing is a great way to promote affiliate products, your own products, your website… anything to which you wish to drive traffic, article writing and marketing is the way to go.
But lots of folks hate writing. They just don’t seem to see the value in it. Let me take a moment to enlighten them (and you, if you happen to fall into that category).
The way Internet Marketing works today is that marketers will write articles and submit them to article directories. This serves 2 purposes for the marketer:
1. It provides exposure for both the marketer and his/her website, as often, links back to the site will be included, either in the body of the article, or in the author’s resource box located, usually, at the bottom of the article.
2. Having those links back to one’s site from “out there” in the article directories gives Google (and the other search engines) the impression that the website must be pretty popular and therefore, more importance should be given to the website by the search engines.
This is a marketing ploy, to be sure, but it works quite well. These links back to the website are called “backlinks” and the more high-profile sites you can place your links on, the higher Google, et al., ranks your site.
Of course, the more quality backlinks to your site, the better. An Internet Marketer may be good at writing, but writing a ton of articles is not only time consuming, it is quite tedious. And then there are those marketers who just do not like to write.
The solution has been to outsource the work.
Most articles written for the purpose of syndication in the directories run anywhere from 350 to 700 words, with most marketers being happy with between 450-600. Key points to include in every article are as follows:
1. The marketer will frequently include a list of keywords that must be used in the article. Keywords are used to give the search engines a way to categorize the article.
2. The most popular keyword density percentages that marketers like to aim for is between 1 and 3%. So, for every 100 words, the keyword should appear from 1 to 3 times.
3. Keywords must be used in the title.
4. The Internet is teaching people to speed-read and scanning has become quite popular. If you were faced with one big long paragraph, would you want to read it? Since it is far too easy for people to “click away” to another web page, articles are broken up into smaller paragraphs. These paragraphs are typically one 3 or 4 sentences long.
5. For this same speed-reading reason, bullet points are VERY popular.
These are the basic reasons why article writing and article marketing work. In my next post, I’ll write about an easy way to get those articles written.
A Fun Fact...
