I have been looking all over for this type of book, Something that just might explain a bit of the workings of wordpress and how to build a blog with it. Thanks so much for having this free item here Jonathan.
Now maybe I will understand what I have been doing on all those site builders!

I would like to start a free WordPress blog on the WordPress site (not my own domain) but I don’t like the themes they provide. Can I use a downloaded theme on there?
If you are speaking of WordPress.com, then I’m afraid the answer is no, right off the bat. WordPress.com is a community and as such, they want to control the overall look of each site by providing themes for you.
However, you CAN request a theme… you can contact support at http://support.wordpress.com/contact or check out the Ideas Forum: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas;
