Google Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide

Dec 12th, 2008 | By CJ | Category: Featured Articles, Web Development

HOT OFF THE PRESSES!!

Google has written a very nice little starter guide for anyone interested in the subject of search engine optimization. I found it while doing some research.

It has images and a “follow-along” example as they optimize a fictitious website, Brandon’s baseball cards. The URL they use, brandonsbaseballcards.com redirects to the Google search page. Cute.

Originally, this document was meant to be an internal document for Google’s developers, but someone had the great idea to offer it under the Creative Commons license as a primer for anyone interested in search engine optimization. Bravo, Google! It is a very helpful document.

From the guide itself:

Although this guide won’t tell you any secrets that’ll automatically rank your site first for queries in Google (sorry!), following the best practices outlined below will make it easier for search engines to both crawl and index your content.

So, for your benefit, I have uploaded a copy here and you can download it at your convenience. If you’re new to this SEO business, this is a good place to start!
