How To Eat An Eel
Aug 2nd, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Article WritingOverheard in a Forum:
“English is a slippery eel of a language.”
Article writing is a pretty hot commodity, these days. In spite of my wanting to get away from that kind of work, I find myself, instead, sitting at this keyboard every day for at least 8 hours and usually more.
And there’s one thing I know. Watching the evolution of a medium of communication, like article writing, go thru the gyrations it goes thru, like the gyrations of a live eel… while you’re trying to eat it… is fascinating. It’s a pure lesson in Human Psychology.
In order to make any money writing, you’ve got to be able to string together a cogent sentence. It’s one of those rules of a free market–that the best will rise to the top.
Do You Remember These Eels:
1. Choose the correct sentence from the three below:
- Whatever language you grew up speaking is the only language in which you should write.
- The language you grew up with is the kind of writing your should write.
- You should write in the language you grew up in.
2. T/F?
Title Case Is Not Necessary In Any Part Of Your Article.
3. T/F?
Your and You’re are NOT interchangeable. Neither is there, they’re and their.
4. Correct use of effect/affect?
“Effective immediately, all affective demonstrations will be curtailed.”
I don’t have a grading systems for this, other than to say, if you don’t know the answer, go look it up. It’s the best way to eat eels.
Stumble it!
