Review – Codejax.com for HTML and PHP Education

Dec 10th, 2008 | By | Category: Reviews
As some of you may know, my history on the Internet includes having been a Community Leader at GeoCities (pre-Yahoo). I also surfed the web back then from WebTV, which means, basically, that HTML became my second language. I helped a LOT of WebTVers learn HTML and create their own websites on the new-fangled WYSIWYG editors at GeoCities. It was great fun.

If I’d known then what I know now, I’d have made a killing! But, as is my wont, I served my WebTV community free of charge and loved every minute of it.

Well, fast-forward to today. GeoCities, in the form it was in then, no longer exists. WebTV is already a relic of the modern age. There are some basic tutorials available out there for an education in site building, but not many are still attended to by their creators. It’s almost as if everyone thinks everyone is born with the knowledge nowadays!

Well, that’s certainly not true. There are still plenty of people, new to the Information Super Highway, coming online and they need a good place to learn the basics. I’ve found an excellent resource for them, very Web 2.0 and easily, one of the nicest places I’ve been to for this kind of thing in quite awhile.

From Codejax.com:

A common question from beginning web designers and developers is: What is the best way to learn html?

As in most worthwhile things in life the answer is through practice. The web is flooded with free and easy html tutorials which give the impression that all you have to do is learn a few html tags and then cut and paste them into your web pages. Now this is ok, its certainly better than nothing, but a crucial element is missing. When you take the cheap, free, cut and paste approach you don’t actually learn how to use html to develop web pages. You only learn a few tricks that will work in some instances and not others. You also don’t learn to think in html!

A far better and proven approach is to follow a structured course, produced by an expert trainer, that shows you through practical examples how to develop web pages with html. That way you get practical experience and your knowledge and understanding build up in a structured and systematic way. By adopting this approach you learn a lifelong skill that you can apply to all your web projects rathar than a few tricks that will help in some instances but not others.

Codejax.com is a free membership-based community where you can learn the basics of HTML and PHP. What I especially like about it is that lessons are given in video. These days, video is the way to go, as people find them easier to digest than having to slog thru a long, written tutorial. Ooops…No, I did NOT just say reading is boring!!!! Well, video implants a picture in the brain, as you know, and some folks learn better that way.

Go check it out: Codejax.com Did I mention it’s free?

A Fun Fact...
