For those who are just starting out in this activity, let me share a tip that comes right at the beginning. If you’re going to do it, you might as well get it right from the offset . I’m talking about your article title. It’s important to create the right title – the kind that readers and search engines notice.

When most internet users want to learn about a topic, they’ll use one of the major search engines. Generally, they’ll key in between 1 to 5 keywords relating to the subject they’re interested in. The search engines then bring out the results that best match their search. Perhaps that’s how you found this article on article marketing. You typed in “article marketing” and voila! this article popped out. Now if you’ve written or are marketing an article on the subject that is being searched for, you naturally want it to be somewhere along the top of the search engine results. Right? Well, your title can do much to produce this result.

Your title is exceedingly important when it comes to search engine optimization. Search engines love keyword-rich articles. Generally, the first 3 to 5 words of your article title are crucial in determining how much traffic your article will bring to your website. Select a 2 to 3 keyword phrase that a searcher might possibly type into a search engine to find the subject he’s interested in knowing more about. Let’s take, as an example, this article which is on article marketing. Notice I have the phrase “article marketing” right there in the beginning. Now since the order of words in your keyword phrase also makes a difference, you can try reversing the order. Hence, you can have a title such as “Article Marketing: A Crucial Tip on Marketing Articles”. Or you can use the same key words or derivatives of the keywords, such as “Article Marketing: How to Market your Article and Get Top Rank”. It’s important, though, for your article title not just to be keyword-rich but to be intelligent as well. You can’t just write a nonsensical title stuffed with keywords.

When possible, use the plural form instead of the singular – e.g. “articles” instead of “article”.

When choosing keywords, ask yourself if it’s a keyword phrase that is actually being searched for. To find out, enter the keyword phrase in a search engine and see what results you get.

Do some keyword research before you start your article. A couple of good keyword research sites you can use to do this are:

I’ve recently posted information about how I go about Article Marketing, and the services that I use. There are some new products though that add another dimension to your Article Marketing efforts through Video Marketing.

And no, I’m not going to use this space to pitch any of these software titles to you, as few people really need them…

The concept behind these products deserve our attention though. The idea is to create a slideshow with appropriate (or innocuous) images to play behind a voice reading your article. This in essence, turns your article into a video!

Now you can use a free service like Tube Mogul or a paid service like Traffic Geyser to upload the final video to video sharing sites like YouTube and Metacafe, as well as Social sites like MySpace and Facebook. Search Engines index sites like these almost continuously so the videos show up in just a few hours.

IMHO, the best use for these is to post a link back to the article itself at an Article Directory, as this will help you boost the article’s rank with the search engines. You post a link by putting the full url in the description box the very first thing. This will make it a live link on most video sharing sites. Remember to post your article’s keywords as tags.

You can of course upload to each of the video sharing sites individually but this takes time. The free version of Tube Mogul gives you just over 150 uploads/month so you may want to pick just a few choice video sharing sites to use it on. I generally upload to about 5 or 6 video sharing sites for each video uploaded.

All you really need to create these videos is Windows Movie Maker which is probably already on your PC anyway, and software to record your voice reading the article. I use Audacity along with a microphone I bought for about nine dollars for this. Audacity is free and quite easy to use. It makes the most sense to use the same title on your video that was used on the article.

Now my own voice isn’t exactly James Earl Jones but it does the job, and so will yours. My preference is the sound of anyone’s voice over an electronically generated one, so don’t worry about how you will sound.

The review process on most Article Directories generally takes a few days, so you have some time to get this together. After you get a few article videos under your belt, you’ll be surprised at how fast you can get it done. The important thing is to make it a part of your Article Marketing routine.

This is a question that is not answered simply since thoughts on appropriate marketing range from prophecies that the black hatters have of artificially inflating your backlink count to strict white hatters saying only submit to the most respected websites. Let me give you how I tell if a directory is worth submitting to. First and foremost Page Rank; now I understand that page rank means absolutely nothing for SERPs position and really should only be considered in very few circumstances when deciding where you want to market your website, but I feel that if an article directory does not have PR this is due to one of two reasons. First the article directory could be brand new and I mean just opened its doors to articles. The second and much more likely way that an article directory could not even manage a Page Rank of one is they have been punished by Google for being a link farm. It is much safer to submit to article directories that have at least a Page Rank of 1.

Now from my research throughout marketing articles and thoughts on webmaster forums there is a lot of discussion on whether or not to submit the same article to hundreds of directories. When Google comes across an article which is unique it is labeled so and every other instance of that piece will be considered duplicate content. Will this affect your position in Google SERPs or stunt your Page Rank growth; it is very unlikely the worst thing I have seen happen from a website that had submitted the same article to hundreds of directories is the backlinks do not have the same amount of link juice as the links in a unique article. I have found it personally helpful to use the free traffic system to reach the first page in SERPs. If you would like to find it just do a search for “free traffic system” and it will be the first website listed. What is nice about this article submission program is they add a manual touch and make sure to follow all of the Google webmaster guidelines when placing the articles on the blogs that participate in the program. This is an excellent way to get the maximum exposure for your article and at the same time quickly becoming an authority in your niche.

So when it comes down to article marketing I would like to point out that article promotion should be one of the key aspects in your marketing campaign and I also believe that if you take the time to write a unique article for each submission you will be rewarded for your hard work, but if you choose to submit an article to many different sources it is a good idea to either find a system that will help you rewrite your article or manually take the time to rewrite the article before submitting it over and over.
